Women's Tennis runs winning streak to nine, beats Pikeville 7-0

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis won its ninth straight this afternoon with a 7-0 win over visiting Pikeville (Ky.) at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The sweep marks the fourth in the last five matches for the Blue Raiders (12-1, 4-0 in the Mid-South Conference.

Lindsey Wilson began the match with a free point and halfway to another point after Pikeville (2-3, 0-3) was forced to forfeit at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles due to only having five players.

With one point in hand, the Blue Raiders increased the team's lead to 2-0 after capturing the doubles point. Lindsey Wilson won both doubles matches played to go along with the freebie to take all three doubles matches.

Darija Mladenovic and Parisa Rachdanone secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Sara Contreras and Riley Mullins in the second-seeded match. Lucia Mora and Alexandra Parra closed out doubles play on court one with a 6-3 win over Camila Agudelo and Gabriela Guacanes.

With the win, Mora and Parra -- who is ranked No. 9 in the NAIA in doubles -- improve to a team-best 10-0 on the season.

Mladenovic and Salome Sposetti each won their singles matches to remain unbeaten this season in singles play. Mora, Anastasiia Ivanchenko, and Reshma Challarapu also added straight-set wins, while Rachdanone received the forfeit win.

Mladenovic started the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Guacanes on court three to push the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-0. She moves to 9-0 this season with the win.

Mora -- ranked 32nd in the NAIA in singles -- matched Mladenovic's win with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the top-seeded match over Agudelo to give Lindsey Wilson the 4-0 lead and team win.

Sposetti did not drop a game on court five to move to 10-0 this season in singles while Ivanchenko won in the fourth-seeded match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Contreras.

Challarapu worked a little harder today but still won in straight sets with a 7-6 (4), 7-5 win over Andrea Hurtado on court two.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at noon CT on Wednesday, March 23, as the Blue Raiders host Cumberland (Tenn.) -- who is receiving votes in the national poll -- at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
