Women's Tennis beats Campbellsville in comeback fashion, wins MSC regular-season title

Box Score

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis needed a comeback effort to beat host Campbellsville (Ky.) 4-3 today at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.

The Blue Raiders (19-2, 10-0 in the Mid-South Conference) win the program's 16th MSC regular-season title with today's win. Lindsey Wilson earns the top seed in next week's MSC Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky.

Trailing 3-2 entering the final two singles matches, Parisa Rachdanone and Salome Sposetti won on courts five and six to secure the come-from-behind win and the conference title.

Rachdanone evened the team match at 3-3 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Madison Hill in the fifth-seeded match while Sposetti won the clincher in the sixth-seeded match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Addison Sutton.

Rachdanone improves to 11-2 in singles play this season while Sposetti remains unbeaten at 17-0.

After the Blue Raiders won two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead, Alexandra Parra beat Oriana Espinoza in the top-seeded match that featured a pair of nationally-ranked players.

Parra entered the match 29th in the NAIA while Espinoza boasted a No. 31 ranking. Parra won 6-4, 6-3 to extend Lindsey Wilson's lead to 2-0.

No. 18-ranked Campbellsville (14-5, 7-2) won the next three singles matches -- two of which went to three sets -- to take its first and only lead of the day.

The lead was short-lived thanks to Rachdanone and Sposetti's heroics.

Lindsey Wilson grabbed an early 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches.

Darija Mladenovic and Reshma Challarapu cruised to a 6-1 win over Sutton and Emily Hibbs in the second-seeded doubles match.

On court one, the Tigers tandem of Espinoza and Angela Mendoza -- ranked 14th in the NAIA -- upset ninth-ranked Parra and Lucia Mora 6-1.

Rachdanone and Anastasiia Ivanchenko secured the doubles point for the Blue Raiders on court three with a 7-5 win over Hill and Ariadna Perez to give Lindsey Wilson the 1-0 lead entering singles.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 9 a.m. CT on Friday, April 22, in the MSC Tournament quarterfinals at the Buchanon Park Tennis Complex. The Blue Raiders face the winner of the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds in the quarterfinals -- which will be played on Thursday.
