Men's Soccer Upset by Northwestern Ohio

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team suffered their second straight loss to open the season after falling to Northwestern Ohio 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Both teams were tied until the 81st minute when the Racers scored the game-winning goal before tacking on a third goal in the final minute.

Northwestern Ohio (1-0-1) controlled the pace of play, outshooting LWC (0-2) 19-4 including 6-2 for shots on goal.

The Racers scored first, doing so in just the 12th minute thanks to a free kick from just outside the penalty area. The shot crashed off a Lindsey Wilson defender and made its way into the back of the goal.

Lindsey Wilson bounced back with a goal of their own in the 25th minute to level the score. Victor Cavalcante produced the equalizer for the Blue Raiders on an individual effort after being fouled inside the penalty area.

Thomas Echevarria scored the game-winner for Northwestern Ohio, finishing into the left corner off a cross from Lucas Vazquez. Thomas Echevarria tallied his second goal of the afternoon in the 90th minute, making use of an LWC defensive mistake to put the game away.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 3 when they travel to Lakeland, Fla., to face Southeastern (Fla.). The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT start time.
