Box Score 1 LEBANON, Tenn. – At Lindsey Donnell Stadium, the home-standing Phoenix of Cumberland University played a solid game defensively, holding the Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team to five shots on goal en route to a 3-1 conference decision.
Despite holding a 16-13 advantage on total shots, the Blue Raiders ultimately failed to overcome a late multi-goal deficit, even after showing signs of life down the stretch.
In this chippy outing that saw six total yellow cards and 24 fouls, the Phoenix stamped their name on the board first after 34 minutes of scoreless action.
Then, in the second half, Cumberland doubled its lead in the 58th minute, digging the visitors into an even deeper hole.
However, in the 76th minute, the Blue Raiders ended the shutout bid behind a penalty kick from Alexander Koziolek, his second goal of the season, but Cumberland snatched any momentum Lindsey Wilson may have had right back less than two minutes later, restoring its two-goal cushion to eventually seal the deal.
Monwabisi Mngqibisa, Sadam Masereka, and Jaland Larmond each contributed three shots for the locals, and Pablo Costa closed the day with four saves in net.
Lindsey Wilson continues its in-league schedule on September 28 at home versus Thomas More University at 7 p.m. CST.
