Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 5 ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team recorded a 5-0 shutout over Georgetown on Senior Night Wednesday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium/Ray Wells Field.
Alvaro Verwey, Felix Poschmann and Monwabisi Mngqibisa, Juan Sola and Fabio De Paula each scored a goal for the Blue Raiders (11-2-2, 4-0-1 Mid-South Conference). Lindsey Wilson held a 31-4 edge in shots over Georgetown (6-8, 1-4 MSC) and 15-0 in shots on goal.
Verwey got the Blue Raiders on the board first just 40 seconds into the game. He received the ball with his back against the goal and then did a 180 turn to fire into the bottom right corner. Poschmann added to the Lindsey Wilson lead 2-0 scoring in the 10th minute. Poschmann dribbled past three defenders and finished with his right foot in the bottom left corner. The Blue Raiders outshot the Tigers 11-0 in the first 45 minutes and held a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Mngqibisa dribbled into the box and was able to put it past the Tiger goalkeeper to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-0 in the 58th minute. Following a Blue Raider corner kick, Lindsey Wilson was able to keep possession in the box where Sola was able to put it in the back of the net. De Paula increased the LWC lead to 5-0 in the 88th minute.
Lindsey Wilson closes out its regular season on Monday Oct. 30 when they travel to face No. 18 Cumberlands. Kickoff from the UC Soccer/Lacrosse Complex is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
