Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team fell to ninth-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.), 5-2, on Monday evening at UC Tennis Complex after the Saturday start saw the match postponed until today.
In the doubles matches, Marina Nagai and Fan Shiau opened up Saturday downing Heyka Rodriguez and Mayra Gisone (8-3), 6-4, as the No. 1 match in Meiri Okuwaki and Mikaela Fros versus Parisa Rachdanone and Anastasiia Ivanchenko (5-3) saw the Patriots earn the doubles point with a 6-3 win. Cumberlands would go on to sweep the doubles portion with Laura Prieto and Catherine Rae defeating Reshma Challarapu and Darija Mladenovic (8-1) in a closely contested 7-5 victory, giving the Blue Raiders pairing their first doubles loss in conference play.
In the singles portion of the match, Mladenovic gave Lindsey Wilson their first victory of the day with a, 6-2. 6-1 victory over Nagai and pushing her singles record to 11-0 on the season. Prieto then conquered Salome Sposetti, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0, as No. 10-ranked Okuwaki followed shortly with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over Challarapu. Shortly after, the match would be postponed until Monday after the weather made the playing surface unfit to continue the matches, with Cumberlands sitting one point away from the win.
Following the resuming of the match, Shiau would down Rachdanone with a highly contested first set, 7-5, 6-2, and giving the Patriots the match victory.
Both squads would play the match to completion with Fros defeating Ivanchenko in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, as the Blue Raiders would then notch another point with Gisone toppling Johanna Beckmann, 6-2, 7-5, wrapping up the weather plagued weekend with Cumberlands earning the 5-2 victory.
The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team will be back in action for their Mid-South Conference finale where they will hit the road to take on Pikeville on Apr. 12 at 1 p.m. CST at Bob Amos Complex.
