No. 5 Men's Soccer Falls at No. 11 St. Thomas 3-1

Miami Gardens, Fla. - The No. 5 ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team fell In a tense match against  No. 11 St. Thomas 3-1. The game was a rematch from last year's NAIA National Tournament.

The first 10 minutes of the match didn't see much action, with no clear chances for either team.The breakthrough came in the 14th minute when forward Osaghae Oghogho, from the Bobcats, rose above everyone else during the first corner of the game and powered a header past Pablo Costa, giving his team a 1-0 lead. A golden opportunity for a second goal arose when the Blue Raiders (2-1) had a defensive mistake that left the goal wide open, but attacker Angelo Bernandes failed to capitalize.

St. Thomas remained in control for the next 20 minutes as Lindsey Wilson was unable to get any clear chances. 

In the 40th minute,  the Bobcats had another opportunity to extend their lead. Pablo Costa made a great save, denying Guido Cacciabue's shot to keep it a one goal game. However, a moment of defensive lapse from the Bobcats occurred near the end of the first half in the 43rd minute, resulting in a penalty for Lindsey Wilson. Sadam Masereka confidently converted the penalty, leveling the score at 1-1.

Lindsey Wilson was called with a penalty just a minute into the second half. Cacciabue did not give in to pressure and put St. Thomas ahead 2-1.

As the second half progressed, Lindsey Wilson struggled to create clear chances. With only 15 minutes left in the game, they were still trailing by a goal.

In the 79th minute, there was a thrilling one-on-one chance for Masereka on a counter-attack, but Bobcat goalkeeper Acerbi made a crucial save, preserving his team's lead.

As the match approached its climax, in the 87th minute, a dramatic moment unfolded. Costa, found himself in a challenging situation as a Bobcat player made contact with him in the air impeding him to hang on to the ball. Bernandes took advantage and scored while Costa was on the ground. 

The match took an unexpected turn when it ended prematurely due to a power outage caused by storms in the area. At the time of the interruption, there were only 1 minute and 40 seconds left on the clock resulting in the game to end 3-1

Lindsey Wilson continues its Florida trip on Sunday when they take on No. 9 Keiser (Fla.) at 9 a.m. CT in West Palm Beach, Fla.
