Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – At Biggers Sports Center, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team showed flashes of grit and resilience against its Highway 55 rival Campbellsville (Ky.), but at the end of the night, the visiting Tigers had put forth all the mettle necessary to come away with 3-1 decision.
Despite shaking off a slow first set to clinch the second, the Blue Raiders ultimately could not fend off Campbellsville's unyielding attack, which produced 20 more kills than the hosts.
The heavy advantage on offense sparked in the opening set for the visitors, as they outkilled Lindsey Wilson 18-5, including for each of their first six points of the set en route to an early 7-3 lead. A pair of errors by Campbellsville, followed by back-to-back kills from Elizabeth Moore drew Lindsey Wilson level at 7-7. From there the two sides traded jabs until the Tigers eventually opened a 17-12 cushion and with momentum, they carried through to a 25-17 set win.
A back-and-forth second frame saw Campbellsville sneak ahead 9-8, but a subsequent miscue coupled with a kill by Elisa Burzio sent Lindsey Wilson on a 7-1 run that also featured two electrifying service aces from Luiza Goncalves. The Tigers managed to pull within two points of the Blue Raiders' lead but could get no further. A small 4-0 rally by the home side put them in the driver's seat before a successful attack by Burzio sealed the set, 25-20.
Campbellsville came out of the break strong to build a 5-1 lead, and even with the resilient efforts of Lindsey Wilson bearing down the stretch, the Tigers held on to earn a crucial, 25-19, set victory. Then, in what proved to be the final frame, the Blue Raiders utilized a trio of Tiger errors to move in front, 14-11. However, the edge failed to hold as a 10-1 swing gave Campbellsville all it needed to secure the match.
Lindamara Conceicao and Burzio each paced the hosts with nine kills, followed by Savanah Pippin with seven.
Goncalves notched her first double-double of the season, finishing with 22 assists and 10 digs. She also contributed a team-high four aces. Meanwhile, Natalie Ackermann wound up leading Lindsey Wilson defensively with 19 digs.
The Blue Raiders are on the road to Tennessee this weekend to face Bethel (Tenn.) on Friday and Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on Saturday.
