COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team is set to kick off their Spring season this Friday with an early morning clash against NCAA Division I opponent Eastern Kentucky University. The match is scheduled for 8 a.m. CT at the William F. Galtney Tennis Center in Richmond, Kentucky.

The Blue Raiders are coming off an impressive Fall campaign that showcased their talent and depth. At the 2024 ITA Southeast Regional Championships, Lindsey Wilson stood out with stellar performances. Mariangeles Mateu claimed the singles title and Anastasiia Vorobiova finished as the runner-up. The doubles team of Mayra Gisone and Anastasiia Ivanchenko also secured their place at the prestigious ITA Cup by winning the doubles championship.

The Fall season concluded at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, where Mateu and Vorobiova represented the Blue Raiders in singles, while Gisone and Ivanchenko competed in doubles. Mateu and Vorobiova faced tough competition, including eventual champions and finalists, gaining valuable experience at the national level. Gisone and Ivanchenko advanced to the second round, where they pushed a finalist doubles pair to three sets before moving to the consolation bracket, where they claimed an exciting victory over a Georgia Gwinnett duo.

Now transitioning to team play, the Blue Raiders are eager to test themselves against Eastern Kentucky, a strong NCAA Division I program. This matchup will serve as an important early challenge. EKU is 3-2 so far this season winning their last matchup 4-2 against Cumberlands (Ky.). 

The ladies take on the Colonels at 8 a.m. CT on Friday at the William F. Galtney Tennis Center.
