BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson junior varsity volleyball team captured the program's first Mid-South Conference tournament championship on Saturday at Ephram White Gymnasium.
The Blue Raiders did not drop a set through two matches of pool play, defeating Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) (25-14, 25-17) and Georgetown (Ky.) (25-15, 25-20) to earn the number one seed in bracket play.
In the semifinals, Lindsey Wilson bested Georgetown, again, in three sets (25-17, 16-25, 15-8), setting up another rematch with Cumberland (Tenn.), who the Blue Raiders had previously lost to in the last two conference tournament finals.
Lindsey Wilson held off the Phoenix to win the first set 25-21 but dropped the second 25-16 to force a winner-take-all third frame. After a back-and-forth start, the Blue Raiders pulled away to clinch the match 15-11 on a kill by senior
Michaela Tracy.
The junior varsity team is home at 5 p.m. CT on Wednesday to host Brescia (Ky.), and will be recognized for its championship during the varsity match at 7 p.m. CT.
