Women’s Flag Football Starts off Inaugural Season 2-0 on Landslide Victories

MURFREESBORO, N.C.- The Blue Raider women's flag football team defeated Chowan (N.C.) 87-0 in game one and took an 111-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan in game two Saturday afternoon. 

On the day, Amaya Pablo threw for 387 yards, completing 25-for-30 of her pass attempts for 13 touchdowns, and 46 rushing yards alongside three rushing touchdowns. Cadence Wermers ended the day with 16 receptions, 193 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns. Jade Mazziotta tallied 11 receptions, 123 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. Ashten Dickerson tallied five interceptions, Emerson Gregory garnered three interceptions, including a pick-six, while Tyria Tanner totaled three interceptions including two pick-sixes. Emily good tallied 14 flag-pulls with two sacks for a combined loss of 17 yards while Kaylen Newton tallied seven flag pulls and four sacks for a loss of 15 yards.

Game One: Lindsey Wilson 87, Chowan 0
Lindsey Wilson owned the field on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, with Amaya Pablo finding Cadence Wermers at 5:54 in the first quarter for the first touchdown in program history. Less than a minute later, Tyria Tanner picked off Chowan on the 14-yard line at the five-minute mark for a nine-yard spurt. Pablo was able to convert on the interception, finding Carley Yokley for a 10-yard touchdown reception to increase the Blue Raider lead to 14-0 with 4:00 left in the first quarter. Lindsey Wilson began a drive at 1:40 on the Chowan 16 with Pablo finding Gabby Kruse for an 11-yard reception, down to the Hawks' five. Pablo found Wermers again for a five-yard touchdown reception at 1:12 to grow the lead to 20-0 headed into the second quarter. 

At 10:23 on second down with 23 yards to go, Pablo found a cutting Jenna Lindsey for a pass right up the middle of the field for a 60-yard touchdown and a successful extra point to push LWU ahead 27-0. After forcing Chowan to turn the ball over on downs, the Blue Raiders started a drive at 8:29 that resulted in a completion from Pablo to Jade Mazziotta on fourth down for a 34-0 lead with 6:14 to play. On Chowan's next drive, Tanner picked up her second interception of the game on the third yard line for a pick-six for a 41-0 Lindsey Wilson advantage with 4:59 on the clock. The Blue Raiders closed out the half with a drive beginning at 1:10 on the Chowan 13 as Pablo found Wermers for a 13-yard touchdown reception for a 48-0 lead headed into the half. 

Lindsey Wilson picked up right where they left off in the second half, with Jali Santiago finding Tanner on the offensive side of the ball for a 66-yard reception on the opening play of the second half to push LWU ahead 55-0 with 14:47 on the clock. At 12:09, Lindsey Wilson began a six-play drive that resulted in Santiago finding Wermers from five yards out to extend the lead to 61-0 with 9:27 on the clock. Less than four minutes later, Santiago found Wermers once again in the endzone to increase the lead to 67-0 headed into the fourth quarter. 

The Blue Raiders' first possession of the fourth quarter resulted in an 18-yard touchdown from Santiago to Emily Good pushing the lead to 74-0 with 14:16 to play. With 9:44 left in the game, Santiago found Wermers on a successful fourth-down attempt, increasing the LWU lead to 81-0. Pablo found Wermers one last time for a 30-yard reception, capping the game 87-0. 

Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 111, Virginia Wesleyan-0
Lindsey Wilson began game two on a four-play drive that ended at 13:51 after Pablo found Wermers for a one-yard touchdown to lead 7-0 early. On Virginia Wesleyan's first possession Ashten Dickerson picked off the Hawks on the 24 for a one-yard return. With 13:25 on the clock, Pablo found Demi Serman for a 23-yard touchdown extending the lead to 13-0 with 13:17 on the clock. At 12:18 Emerson Gregory tallied a pick-6 after intercepting the VWU pass on the 36-yard line and returning it for a Blue Raider touchdown to extend the lead to 27-0. Lindsey Wilson tacked on three more touchdowns to end the first quarter with a 47-0 lead. 

Pablo opened the second quarter with a 20-yard rushing touchdown to push the Blue Raiders ahead 53-0 with 12:32 on the clock. With 8:00 on the clock, LWU went on a six-play drive that resulted in a Mazziotta touchdown with 4:24 on the clock and 60-0 advantage. Lindsey Wilson began a drive at 2:06 and converted on the first play on a 30-yard pass from Pablo to Wermers to extend the lead to 67-0 with 1:51 left in the half. Tanner picked up another pick-six on the 14, returning it for a Blue Raider touchdown and a 73-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson closed the half on a one-yard touchdown pass from Pablo to Mazziotta to take an 80-0 lead to close the second quarter. 

The Blue Raiders began their first drive of the second half at the 12:00 mark, resulting in a five-play touchdown drive on a pass from Santiago to Yokley for 19 yards and a 86-0 Blue Raider lead. At 5:45, Santiago found Kaylen Newton in the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown and a 92-0 lead. LWU closed the quarter scoring another touchdown to lead 98-0 headed into the fourth quarter of action. 

Tanner scored the first touchdown of the fourth quarter on a fourth down and six to push Lindsey Wilson past the century mark to lead 105-0 at the 10 minute mark. The Blue Raiders scored their final touchdown of the day with 6:45 remaining on a pass from Santiago eight yards out to Mazziotta to finalize the 111-0 score.

Women's Flag Football will be back in action on February 28 in Ferrum, Virginia, to face Hollins (Va.) at 1:30 P.M. CT and Ferrum (Va.) at 3 P.M. CT.
