Flag Football Takes First Battle of Highway 55 Meeting 40-13

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Blue Raider women's flag football team defeated (RV) Campbellsville 40-13 in the inaugural home opener and Battle of Highway 55 rivalry Friday night. 

Amaya Pablo completed 16-of-31 pass attempts tallying 215-yards and five touchdowns. Pablo also led in rushing yards with 127-yards on 14 attempts and one touchdown. Gabby Kruse picked up two touchdowns on four receptions for an average of 7.3-yards a catch. Jenna Lindsey picked up 69-yards on four receptions, tacking on a touchdown. Tyria Tanner led the team with eight tackles and one interception for 18-yards. 

Lindsey Wilson deferred on the coin toss to start the game, placing defense on the field to face Campbellsville on the first drive of the game. The Blue Raider defense forced a punt, putting the ball on the Blue Raider 36 for their first drive. Pablo found Demi Serman from  18-yards out on the sixth play of the drive with 6:05 on the clock for a Blue Raider touchdown to lead 6-0 headed into the second quarter. 

Campbellsville got on the board in the second quarter on a 31-yard touchdown pass from Emani Scott to Monica Montes to tie the game at 7-7 with 5:20 left in the first half. Lindsey Wilson began its drive at 5:20 for an eight-play drive resulting in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Pablo to Momo Hampton for a 13-7 lead headed into halftime. 

The Blue Raiders started the second half with an 11-play, 71-yard drive with Pablo finding Lindsey six-yards out for the third touchdown of the night and a 20-7 lead with 6:18 on the clock. LWU turned Campbellsville over on downs, leading to a 14-yard Gabby Kruse touchdown to lead 27-7 headed into the final 12 minutes of action. 

Pablo found Kruse again with 9:51 left in the game to extend the lead to 34-7. Campbellsville took over with 9:51 on the clock with Tanner intercepting a pass from Tiger Kierstan Pasma at 8:16, placing the ball on the 21-yard line. Pablo converted on the Tanner interception, rushing from 21-yards out to extend the LWU lead to 40-7 with 8:06 remaining. Campbellsville scored the final touchdown of the game at 5:09, cutting the lead to 40-13. Both teams remained scoreless the last five minutes, with Lindsey Wilson taking the 40-13 victory over Campbellsville.

Flag football will be back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Rockford Rumble held in Rockford, Illinois to face Aurora (Ill.) and Benedictine (Ill.) on Friday at 12:30 P.M. CT and 2:30 P.M. CT followed by Rockford (Ill.) and Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday at 9:30 A.M. CT and 11:30 A.M. CT.
