Kenyata Carbon has been named the NAIA Men's Basketball National Offensive Player of the Week, the national office announced on Tuesday.
Carbon earns the honor in the midst a dominant stretch in which he is averaging 27.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists over his last six games while shooting an incredible 69 percent from the field, 61 percent from three-point range, and 82 percent from the free-throw line.
The Owensboro, Kentucky, native has been nearly unstoppable for the Blue Raiders, scoring 20 or more points in each of those contests, including back-to-back career highs of 32 and 33 points in recent Mid-South Conference wins over Campbellsville (Ky.) and Cumberland (Tenn.). His 33-point, 11-rebound double-double against the Phoenix marked his first of the season.
Through 16 games this year, Carbon is averaging 20.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists while shooting 61 percent from the floor and 42 percent from beyond the arc. The Blue Raiders sit at 12-4 overall and 2-0 on cpnference action as they enter this week on a four-game winning streak.
In Mid-South Conference play, Carbon leads the league in scoring at 32.5 points per game and ranks among the top three in rebounds and assists. He is also shooting 70.6 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent from three-point range in conference games, showcasing his efficiency and consistency.
The national recognition adds to his remarkable resume, as he recently captured his eighth career Mid-South Conference Player of the Week honor his fifth this season and third straight becoming the first player in school history to earn three consecutive weekly awards and the first in the conference since 2013-14.
Carbon becomes the fourth Blue Raider in program history to receive NAIA National Player of the Week honors and the first since 2015 when D'on Hall earned the award. His leadership and steady play have fueled Lindsey Wilson's current surge and perfect start in conference play.
The Blue Raiders return to action against second-ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at 7:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, January 15, in Columbia, Kentucky.
